Good Grief

"Good Grief" is an exploration of life, death and what comes after; exploring the connection between the human body and how the experiences of death and grief change us. Using a mixture of interactive sewn forms, sculpture, video and projected media this exhibition invites you step inside the process, walk with the grief and loss, and find peace in it. Showcasing how death at its core doesn't need to be terrifying, the pieces view loss with compassion and understanding, creating space for a feeling of acceptance that can even be beautiful.

The Embrace

While nestled in a corner wrapped in blankets and warmth, The Embrace invites the viewer to sit with the concept of death while resting in a place of comfort. In removing the traditional white walled sterilized rooms and the taboo of discussing death; The Embrace creates a way to confront death without terror and fear. The idea of decaying peacefully in death’s embrace surrounded by nature pushes the viewer to reflect on life and find a place of comfort and acceptance in the natural process of death.

1955 Palumbo Heights

Through topographical maps and sparks projected onto sewn table runners and cloths 1955 Palumbo Heights is a reactionary piece based on the anticipatory grief experienced over the potential loss of a childhood home in the Dogtooth fires in British Columbia during the summer of 2024.

A Collection of Small Meaningful Objects (With No Inherent Use Other Than To Make The Heart Glow Softer)

This automata utilizes a crank to mimic the pumping of a heart, pushing the viewer physically crank the handle to reanimate the heart, halting the flatline.

This work also serving as the exhibitions take aways with the viewers encouraged to take one of the sewn stuffed hearts with them

Pink Cocktail

Utilizing filmed and found footage Pink Cocktail is a commentary on the funeral industry and the general taboo surrounding death as a whole. This work focuses on the shift away from home care and into a more sterile environment with excerpts taken from actual embalming fluid and funeral home ads.

Heartstrings

Based off of a collection of sacred hearts found inside the walls of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel in Montreal, and my love for collecting scared hearts from around the world this papier-mâché heart is my way of intertwining both my love for the imagery and desire to illustrate personal connection
